EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A major data center owner faced a complex logistics challenge involving the secure storage, consolidation, and distribution of over 1,000 pieces of mission-critical equipment. This equipment was sourced from ten different manufacturers across North America, including Richmond, VA; Waukesha, WI; Richland, MS; Chihuahua, MX; Chicago, IL; Machesney Park, IL; Jacksonville, FL; Centralia, IL; Warrendale, PA; and Mexicali, MX. The equipment required careful coordination to ensure accurate tracking and timely delivery.

• None of the existing manufacturers could provide adequate long or short-term storage options that met the client’s needs.
• The initial storage requirement was 30,000 sq. ft., with expected growth up to 100,000 sq. ft. as equipment volumes increased.
• Rapid construction across multiple sites made tracking critical equipment challenging for the client.

This project required managing a high volume of equipment from multiple manufacturers. Careful handling and strict quality assurance were essential to ensure smooth, consolidated storage and readiness for distribution.
BLUEPRINT’S APPROACH
Using our Plan, Manage, Measure (P2M) methodology, our BluePrint team delivered a streamlined logistics solution from a partner facility in Austin, Texas, serving as the central hub for storage and distribution. Our approach ensured an efficient, seamless process to meet the client’s complex needs, from centralized storage to final delivery.

Plan:
Months before equipment arrival, BluePrint assigned a dedicated program manager who, along with their team, worked closely with the client to establish a clear schedule and detailed requirements for each stage of the project. With over 1,000 pieces of equipment sourced from various manufacturers, it was essential to align on consolidation, quality standards, and delivery timelines.

Given the storage requirements for the gear, we identified a partner’s 220,000 SQFT facility in Austin, Texas (ProLift Rigging) as the best choice for the central storage hub. The facility featured 24-hour security, a team of experienced on-site riggers, and a diverse selection of lifting equipment to safely load/unload the client’s gear. Additionally, the site offered scalable storage space that could accommodate both current needs and future growth.

Our planning also included with the facility’s local staff and management team to ensure the Austin site was fully prepared for the efficient intake, handling, and storage of high-volume inventory.

Manage:
Once equipment began arriving, our team took a hands-on approach to manage every logistical detail. As part of our quality assurance process, each piece was inspected upon arrival to verify its condition and serial numbers. Photos were taken to document its state.

We then consolidated pieces onto single skids for more efficient transport to final destinations. A dedicated program manager oversaw the entire process, from receiving shipments to ensuring secure consolidation. This ensured clear communication, allowing the client to efficiently coordinate shipping, receive timely updates, and address any issues quickly.

Throughout the project, we implemented meticulous tracking and quality assurance measures to ensure complete accuracy
and accountability from start to finish. Each piece of equipment was inspected visually upon arrival, with our QAQC team documenting its condition through photographs before unloading it from the truck. This detailed inspection process helped reduce the risk of damage or discrepancies before the equipment entered storage. Additionally, we maintained an organized, up-to-date inventory for seamless traceability within our Austin facility, ensuring every item was accounted for at each stage. Prior to any outbound shipments, a secondary inspection was conducted to verify condition and take additional photos, ensuring reliable records and the safe, on-time delivery of all items to sites across Dallas, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, and Northern Virginia.

Measure:
Our team provided detailed reporting on key metrics specified by the client to ensure transparency and optimize project outcomes. We tracked Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) to highlight cost efficiencies, monitored the Damage Rate through thorough inspections to mitigate risks, and documented any Change Orders to keep the client informed of adjustments.

Additionally, we reported on storage data, including days in storage and schedule accuracy, to ensure alignment with distribution timelines. This approach offered the client a clear view of performance and accountability throughout each phase of the project
KEY OUTCOMES
• Optimized Storage: The client consolidated all equipment in a single, reliable location, eliminating the need for multiple storage facilities.
• Improved Coordination: The consolidated storage and handling process simplified operations, allowing the client to manage a complex project with ease.
• Quality and Accountability: Rigorous QAQC protocols at the Austin facility provided the client with confidence that each piece of equipment was in optimal condition before transport, reducing potential delays and ensuring project timelines were met.
• Scalable Solution: BluePrint’s collaboration with its sister company enabled storage capacity expansion up to 220,000 square feet, allowing the client to accommodate future growth without disruption.
CONCLUSION
By partnering with our sister company for centralized storage and leveraging our expertise in quality assurance and distribution,
we helped streamline the client’s supply chain. This collaborative solution allowed the client to focus on core operations while relying on BluePrint’s dependable, scalable logistics services. The Austin facility, managed in close coordination, has now become a key distribution hub, supporting the client’s continued growth and ensuring seamless logistics support.
